On top of being the cutest gift shop in Ashburn, Virginia, Zazu is now carrying our new Loudoun tees. Keep reading to meet Marilyn and all the work she’s doing to redefine gift giving on the local level.
What attracted you to Zazu Gifts?
I purchased Zazu three years ago. Prior to that I did interior design for 34 years and was looking for something new to do. I also had a few years of retail background and had always loved working in retail. It was my dream to have my own shop one day and feel very lucky that I was able to purchase Zazu from the original owner. We didn’t know each other prior to meeting but yet we found out we had so many things in common. We had even grown up in McLean at the same time and frequented the same small gift shops, where we both developed a love and definition of what a gift shop should be.
What is your favorite thing about being a local business owner?
Relationships with customers and as a small independent business being able to cater to the needs/desires of the community.
Why are you excited about carrying District Line Co. t-shirts?
I loved the concept from the first time I saw one! I loved the idea of being able to capture the highlights of Loudoun in the design.
What are your favorite places to spend time in Ashburn (or NoVa)?
I love shopping and dining in downtown Leesburg and in Middleburg.
What does local mean to you?
It means my community—at times that can be my neighborhood and at times it can mean all of Loudoun County. I am a big believer, though, in supporting the local community and in giving back. This can be through donations, volunteering, or through supporting local businesses.
