I’m Lisa McLaughlin, and I founded District Line Co. to celebrate a love of local with shirts that feel like home. We started as (and remain) a small-batch, DC t-shirt company with a tiny footprint and big crush on entrepreneurs and small businesses.
I fell in love with Arlington, Virginia when I moved here from California, one of many “transplants” who was lured to the area by Corporate America. The creative and entrepreneurial energy of this region became too hard to resist, and I left my career in program management to build the District Line Co. brand. In doing so, I found a passion for supporting and empowering other women entrepreneurs to grow their businesses in step with their dreams. I now serve as a brand ambassador to Play, Work or Dash, on the Board of Advisors for Femworking, and I also run an online Minimalism Community for local women.
District Line Co. is a community-serving, conversation-starting, small-business-supporting company that also sells some pretty fantastic t-shirts. In an age of digital everything, DLC is just as much a company of locally-infused goods as it is a catalyst for real-life, human connection. I think the more we recognize how much we share, the more we see local as the common ground that is always beneath our feet.
I’m not saying a t-shirt can change the world, but it can make it feel like a much smaller place.
Thanks for exploring our site and for supporting the band of small, local businesses that help pull it all together.
See you around town,
